The difference between the Old and New Testaments is like night and day. For a Bible literalist, it must be shocking to see God change so much. IMO, it wasn't God that changed, but man's perception of God. Now add this. Buddhism arose on the Indian continent 500 years before Christ. Nothing is known of the life of Jesus between being a boy and until he was in his early 30s. Some scholars believe Jesus visited India and Tibet in those years. If so, it would explain the strong parallel between much of the wisdom of Jesus and that of Buddhism.

Buddhism and Christianity overlap in places, but overall they're totally different. Buddha made great attempts to discover the Truth 500 years before Jesus was born, but he was just a human giving us his best guesses, hunches and theories. But Jesus said -"..the Father who sent me gave me a command, what I should say and what I should speak" (John 12:49) And THERE we have the huge difference between Buddha and Jesus, Buddha was just a man, but Jesus was the Son of God! I often wonder what the two would have said to each other if they'd met.. And I wonder what Buddha would say to his followers nowadays, i.e -" ignore Jesus", or "Listen to him!". ? Certainly,as a seeker of the Truth, Buddha will probably have seen the writings of the ancient prophets, who foretold the coming of a "Superprophet" (Jesus), and Buddha must have wished he'd be around to meet him. Perhaps Jesus hinted at this when he told his disciples - "..many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them, and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them" (Matt 13:17)

I doubt that Buddha would have encountered the writings of the Jewish Prophets who are the ones generally credited with foretelling the coming of Christ.

..Some scholars believe Jesus visited India and Tibet in those years.. I don't give a rat's ass what "scholars" believe, I prefer to think for myself.. Anyway why on earth would JC want go abroad looking for the truth considering he said " I am the truth"?
