Is it a birth defect, a mental disorder, a plea for attention, or something else?
In my opinion, although it is sometimes a plea for attention or a mental disorder there are many cases in which someone is actually born with a brain with the wrong hormone receptors for their body. This leads to feelings of Gender Disphoria as well as depression and illness due to hormone mismatch.

Alright, so what do you view it as? I'm not saying the options I put forth are the only ones, just the only ones I could think of.

It's just how the person is wired. you make it sound like there is something "wrong" with a person who is transexual.

According to the transexuals I have talked with it is something wrong with them. It doesn't have to be.
I can see being a guy with a vagina as pretty awesome (or a chick with a dick for that matter)

I find your options to be utterly degrading and abhorrent by inviting negative reactions by the ignorant. Transexuals are simply another facet to human sexuality. Where is MattShizzle when we need an expert?!

I dont think they're real. I seen a guy get the op and then he was dating chicks. He could have done that as a guy. I dont get it.

Where is MattShizzle when we need an expert?! well, I'm no expert, and I'm not trans myself, but I have had quite a few trans friends and all of them have viewed it as something actually wrong with them. It's not like being gay, a transsexual, at least all the ones I have known, have the wrong parts. I don't think any less of them for it, just as I don't think any less of people who are born with a gimpy leg or something, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck for them.
